re: J.L.
I've been out of the loop for the past couple months but:
sadly, a lot of chain places, besides that the only joint that i've tried that was new:Yakitoriya on Sawtelle. (great coffee jello and more than just skewers)
Spice Table (only for lunch, but the fried catfish w sambal sandwich was really good, though the curry chicken wings were not really good at all).
Torunako in Little Tokyo (right next door to Lazy Ox Tavern, for the hamburg steak with demiglace sauce which was pretty good).
Best Burger on Western and 35th for a pretty darn good though greasy chili cheese burger. (even a small burger there is beyond huge).
That Pizza Place (for some of the most delicious $5 lunch specials around town).
The Yard for beers and the burger and their fish tacos, their burger meat is good without any sauce or cheese on it even.
Sushi Stop (surprisingly decent for cheap sushi in the vein of sushi mac but much better, though it must be said it is no zo, nozawa, hikko, et al).
Coffee Tomo for exceptional mozzarella stuffed pretzels and the coffee and cappachinos are exceptionally good (sometimes i do need a break from Balconi Cafe, or a different atmosphere)-----

re: kevin
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but intrigued by That Pizza Place. Never heard of it, and I love to find cheap lunch places in Westwood. It is in that very crowded minimall with a Subway and I think a Penguins on the N/E corner of Westwood and Olympic. Yes, they advertise $5 lunch specials, served from 11-5. I'll give them a try very soon.
Thanks, Kevin. You moved or work near Westwood?

re: nosh
yep, same complex as subway. i really liked the beef burger with potato wedge fries, the ahi tuna burger, and the spaghetti with turkey meatballs, granted it is not exceptional if you compare it to somewhere that is about double the price, but it is very good at that price point.
