Confused about Kitchen 1540

I am hoping someone can help me out with this one. A year ago I brought a vegan friend to Kitchen 1540 and the chef did a wonderful job - basically just let her sit back and enjoy his cooking.

Flash forward to this past Sunday. They had the new menu (yes, it has only been a month) and only had about 8 of the tables full but were turning away guests saying that they were "full". When we asked about vegan options, the waitress only told us what could be made vegan on the menu rather than being open to having the chef take care of her like last time. Needless to say she was disappointed since he did so great the last time. She left hungry.

Anyone have any insights as to what was going on? Are they having a waitstaff issue? Kitchen issue with the new menu? Just seemed odd to turn people away - especially on a race day.

Thanks,

Domino

Just a thought here, you may have had a different outcome if you called ahead about your requirements. I would not dis Kit 1540.

We did call ahead as well as left a comment with our reservation via opentable. I am just trying to figure out what may be happening over there. I am hoping it is just them sorting through the new menu. My food was delicious, it was just a different experience than in the past and would like to understand before I bring guests there again with special needs.

If you called ahead, then this is the restaurant's fault (most likely front of house that handles the reservation). They should have communicated this with the kitchen a few days ahead of your reservation and possibly called you to determine the exact dietary restrictions.

Then clearly, the restaurant dropped the ball on this one, I would email the GM. As an aside, I would never rely on on open table for anything

That's a good idea. I just really like them and I am hoping that the new changes are not a sign of turmoil. It has been a great go to restaurant for guests for me. Hopefully, it is just the new menu that has them a little flustered. Didn't know if anyone had an inside scoop on that.
