Newton/West Newton for a dinner with long lost friends

I am getting together with three old girlfriends (they are all staying at Hotel Indigo, right off 128 at exit 23) and we are looking for a place for a nice dinner. I have been wanting to go to Lumiere, but they are booked at the time we want to dine. Any other suggestions in that range? I know I may have waited too long, given that it's restaurant week....

Any preferences for pricepoint, cuisine type? There's very nice Mediterranean/Greek food at Kouzina in Waban (closer than W. Newton, actually). How far are you willing to go distance-wise?

Cuisine type doesn't matter, as long as it's tasty. $30/entree or less is ideal. We will have a car and would travel up to a half hour, although closer is better. I'm a Somervillian, so I'm sort of out of my element here.... If they were coming to me, I'd take them to Gargoyles, Oleana, Craigie on Main, or Hungry Mother.

How about Il Capriccio or La Campania in Waltham? Similar price point though the food may not be as good as Lumiere.

      EDIT to add:

I just remembered seeing this "30 years & 3 courses" for $39 announcement for Il Capriccio. Can't find any info on the restaurant's website though; perhaps you can call the restaurant to confirm if you're interested:

I'd second La Campania. Only 5-7 minutes from Lumiere and really wonderful food/ambiance.

Did you call Lumiere or did you just check Open Table? I know they hold some tables back for call-ins. And I second Kouzina. I really like that place.

I actually called, and believe it or not, the options I got on the phone were the same as those on Open Table. I, too, have found that you often have more luck when you call, but not this time.

What about Blue Ginger? Or 51 Lincoln?

Never been there but I understand there's a great restaurant at Hotel Indigo call Boxx.

Blue Ginger is one of our favorite restaurants. If you make a reservation ask for Melissa, she is a fantastic server. Their specialties are the lobster and butterfish.

Fiorella's on the Newtonville/Waltham line is another great place. Recently renovated to make it larger. Very busy but very good.

La Campania, as mentioned, is excellent.

There is a fairly new restaurant in Newtonville that we recently went to and were very pleased with our meal. It's called C. Tzars and is on Walnut St.

C Tzar's used to be Ariadne's i believe: same very good chef, hopefully not the same clueless service. Haven't been to BOXX but my daughter says its looks over substance and not to bother. Love Kouzina but it is small and might feel a little "lunchy." Blue Ginger and La Campania are both great and festive.

                C. Tzar's is still owned by the same people who owned Ariadne's (so the server told us after I told her I didn't like Ariadne's - lol) which made us very skeptical. Service and server were good. Hostess not so much. We went at 5:30 (restaurant was empty) and we asked for a table for 4 instead of 2. She accomdated us, for a monent.....the minute I started to sit down she said she can't do that because it's going to get very busy (this was a Tuesday night). Led us to a corner table/booth which worked out fine but her attitude was less than nice.

I have been to both and you will get a very good meal at either one. However, I think 51 Lincoln is OUTSTANDING! I don't know why it doesn't get better press (they need to hire a PR person IMHO). All fresh, natural ingredients, in-season. 51 Lincoln is a hidden gem! And Oleana is my favorite restaurant "in the city" so I think we have similar tastes.

Stellina's in Watertown Square is very nice. Not far at all from Newton Corner. They have an outdoor patio this time of year.
