BBC in Menlo Park. Not exactly a *dive* but kind of threadbare. Food is quite decent and they have an upstairs area you can take over. Further north you might consider Swingin' Door (ex Prince of Wales) in san mateo. Not great food, but at least they have food. You might also consider something like The Yuppie and asking if you can bring food in from Everyday Beijing.

Most of the really divey bars don't have food at all

        broken record, far and away.

i've even seen people having birthday parties there that seem to be having tons of fun. the only catch is that you order at the counter, and they have no wine (but probably would be fine w/ you bringing in their own)

Not sure about fun (really subjective)...but dive bar with good food...try Tee Off on Clement.

Along the same lines of the Swingin' Door:

Ausiello's Tavern and Marvin Gardens (both in Belmont).
            Duke of Edinburgh in Cupertino
            Brittania Arms (several locations)
