Dockers Family Restaurant -- another coffee shop for breaky in Vancouver
On my way back from dropping the SO at the south terminal, it was time for comfort food. Not to be confused with Dockers Diner on Powell, this place at 45th and Fraser is a relic from another time. Naugahyde chairs, formica-y tables, a couple of ceiling fans and a big ol' flattop with a massive vent hood make up the decor.
It was all regulars save me at 7:30 on a Tuesday morning. Since it was a weekday, I opted for the $4.99 breakfast special (2 eggs, bacon or sausage, pan-fried spuds and toast) which is available 7 am to noon M-F, holidays excepted. For another $1.75, a bottomless brown crayon water in a rather iconic to me at least cup (see photo). Funny how weak coffee can still give you the rattles if you down two cups in quick succession :-).
Server was lovely, WC was very tidy, food came quickly and was quite tasty, though the eggs were a wee bit overcooked (see flattop above), and I shouldn't have asked for crispy bacon. I noticed that over easy ones at another table had the dreaded crispy edges. But I bet the SO would love the omelettes here; there is quite an extensive menu, including Greek pancakes, which warrant a revisit. They even have a website: www.dockersfamilyrestaurant.com though I notice the posted menu has old prices.
Subs and burgers with hand cut fries look interesting for lunch...

I've eaten 5-6 times at Dockers. Hate to disagree with ya, GE, but I find them just adequate for quality and quantity. Service is .... serviceable but I never found them friendly in a sense. My last time there was maybe 7-8 weeks ago, as I sometimes do I end up wishing for greasy spoon food in a neighbourhood shy on the genre. So it was a bit out of desperation and hunger.
I'm surprised the greasy spoon genre is becoming quite sparse in S. Vancouver. I do have a few gems willing to share:
Victoria Restaurant - Victoria @ 49th, next to Royal Bank
Dylan's - W. 57 @ Cambie, also next to Royal Bank
Risty's Cafe & Sushi Bar (v.2.0 from old Risty's Cafe) - S. Granville btwn 69 and 70 Ave
Risty's has an ok offering of Japanese sushi but also western offerings like burgers, brekkie usuals, etc.. Owner/operator are Chinese, service is attentive, food is good for the $, coffee is good IMHO.

I guess I just got lucky; my server was very friendly indeed. The food was by no means amazing but more than adequate for me and the serving while not massive was reasonable, especially for a fiver. Not a home run but deffo did the trick.
Thanks for Dylan's -- that's a new one for me. Next airport trip, I think, assuming they open early enough.
