Outer Cape questions

1. Suggestions for best scallops - fancy or otherwise- between Chatham and P-town?

2. Please recommend a special occasion place (also Outer Cape) that's ok for kids? We don't need chicken fingers on the menu, we just don't want to be uncomfortable or a problem for other guests.

Thanks in advance, I will post a report at the end of our visit!

Just back and I really enjoyed the scallop appetizer at Blackfish Grill in Truro. The scallops are served in a pool of creamy parmesan sauce. I know that breaks the "no cheese with seafood" rule, but this was really yummy!

And since Blackfish Grill was so noisy, I'm sure you could bring kids. There were some older ones when we dined; don't remember toddlers but we were dining pretty late.

Adrian's in Truro was always very kid friendly - families and groups always dine there. But now that they have a new chef and $30 entrees, I'm not so sure (although they do have a children's menu).

Just called Blackfish, I think. I would never bring kids there myself, though their food is wonderful.
Mac's shack, especially outdoors could work, Napi's too.

Mac's Shack is great, but they don't take reservations and we've waited more than an hour for a table on numerous occasions. Not sure if that would work with kids.

I never go to the cape except off season and in Sept there was no wait to speak of even on Saturday . I was asking for the benefit of the OP and thinking early would probably be ok.

I've always liked the baked scallops at the Bookstore restaurant in Wellfleet. They use a nice light dusting of breadcrumbs and seasoning as opposed to burying them in Ritz crackers and butter. But since I live in Boston, searing scallops at home and finding fried scallops are both very easy for me, so maybe I overvalue a preparation that I don't often get (or at least don't often get done well). Still good though. ;-)

The best scallop sandwich we ever had was at Impudent Oyster in Chatham. On our last 2 visits (July and August this year) I had scallops in the 3 best Wellfleet restaurants (IMO) and though each preparation was different, all were excellent. Mac's Shack, Winslow Tavern and Wicked Oyster are all very very good places.

The first three places mentioned above would be fine for kids, though the prices will be higher than a clam shack like, say, Arnold's. All 3 are casual, yet somehow have a nice vibe too. For sheer diversity in a menu Napi in Provincetown can't be topped. We see children at these places every visit.

We have had several terrific dinners at Napi's and usually one of us gets the scallops with linguine. Fanizzi's By The Sea also has good baked scallop offerings with wild rice and a green vegetable on the side, This is the more family friendly restaurant with a weekly pizza special as an option for kids or an app for all plus a view of the beach and harbor. Both have parking on site.and you should make a reservation.
