What happened to Mattarello Bakery in SOBE?

Does anyone know what happened to the wonderful little Italian bakery Mattarello Bakery Cafe on Washington St. in SOBE?

Go to Fratelli Milano in downtown. While it's more of a restaurant, they have better pastries than Mattarello (and much better bombolones).

Thanks. I too also love Fratelli Milano. I live downtown and go there often. But I will miss those incredible chocolate filled sugar yeast doughnuts amongst other things from Mattarello. The place has a great little hidden gem feeling to it on the beach.

The fried "doughnuts" are the bombolones. I don't recall seeing chocolate filling in the bombolones at Fratelli like in Mattarello. I just thought Fratelli's doughnuts had a better dough and flavor while also holding up better with time (Mattarello's bombolones were soggy-ish and that's never good when talking about fried things) - but maybe I just weren't able to get them early enough. Either way, I do know both places are run by true Italians, and that the Italians love both places that I can't foresee you going wrong with the doughnuts in Fratelli.

mine were never soggy and I had many -- not that it makes any difference now...

Not sure why they closed. They were always busy when I was there.
