sheep's milk

I started making cheese at home and am looking for sheep's milk. I tried La Moutonnière at Marché Jean Talon and no luck. Seems to be only intermittently available on Thursdays and I can't make it on Thursdays. Any suggestions anyone??

Related...is sheep's milk yoghurt something that can be found in Montreal? I'm curious to try it after reading about it.

      definitely.
La Moutonnière has it (regularly, I think) and I've seen it at several grocery stores.
PA has some on sale this week (Krinos brand) - not local but worth a taste, I think.

Thanks Michaelmas and, stupid question, is is called something different? How will I know it is sheep's yoghurt? Thanks. :)

the krinos stuff? should look like this:

It might be available at other stores too, of course.
At the PA it would either be with the other yogurt or in the imported cheese section near the feta and halloumi, I think.

I picked up the yoghurt (called Royoghurt by them) at La Moutonniere and loooove it. Will be going back for a)more yoghurt and b) their 'Creme Extreme' - they didn't have it when I went this week, but it is 65% and I HAVE to try that. I wonder if you could use it to make ice cream in an ice cream maker? Sheeps milk ice cream? Is that a thing?

I'm pretty sure you can get sheep's milk yoghurt at Tau on St-Denis, maybe Rachelle-Bery too. The top of the yoghurt is creamy enough to spread on toast or bagels. You can definitely make sheep's milk ice cream, why not? Sheep's milk cheese are some of the best. I have made a wonderful caramel from goat's milk, (recipe is on this site somewhere for cajeta), would also be great or better done with sheep's milk.

Oops, correction, no sheep's milk yoghurt at Tau or Rachelle-Bery after all.

Hmm. Moutonnière was my go-to place. Could you ask them to hold it for you?
If freshness is a concern, they could perhaps freeze it, too - I know they've done that with butter - though of course that could have effects on cheese. I'm not sure.

I haven't seen any elsewhere in town, even at health food stores.
Only thoughts at this point would be to contact other lamb farmers who sell their goods in town.
I know of two at the marche fermier:

      http://marchefermier.ca/site/?p=1012

But being primarily meat-raisers I don't know if they'll sell you milk.

Another thought would be marche adonis or akhavan - maybe they have enough regular demand to keep it in stock?

Let me know if you find a good source!
