Iowa City CSAs
Does anyone have a CSA they like in Iowa City? Would especially like to receive more unusual greens and heirloom varietals of the usual veggies. It looks like a lot of the farms only accept subscriptions in the spring and they don't do trial boxes, so would like to hear others experiences before committing for the season.

I used ZJ Farms for a few years. There was alway a ton of vegetables, and lot's of different greens were the staple. They tended to be disorganized and the price no longer fit my budget so I stopped a couple years ago. They used to have a pick-up at the IC farmers market, but they've moved somewhere else. If I were to join another one I would look at Salt Fork Farms or Echollective.

I didn't have much luck with Gooseberry last summer, but I guess that's the nature of a CSA... the customer takes the hit with the farmer... I'd recommend checking out Salt Fork Farm. Eric, the owner, has a booth at the Farmers' Market, at least on Saturdays (but maybe not Wednesdays), which doesn't stock the breadth of his offerings. Stop and talk to him -- he's also got roasting chickens and eggs which are AMAZING, which is a nice benefit for a CSA -- you don't only get produce.
