Northern New Mexico Dining

We are driving through Northern New Mexico on I-25 looking for a GEM. Any suggestions?

Charlie's Spic and Span Bakery and Cafe in Las Vegas doesn't exactly qualify as a gem, but they turn out some mean donuts and pastries and it seems to be quite a local favorite. The stretch of I-25 between Las Vegas and the Colorado border is a complete wasteland in my experience.

Spic & Span has reopened? I hadn't been there in a while, and used to like it a lot.

I wasn't aware that it was closed, but I stop for coffee and a donut every other week on my way to Denver so it is definitely open now!

Right on! Have you had a breakfast burrito there lately?

Taos has great restaurants, Goggle or search it. Then take 64 to Raton to get back on I-25. Not far out of the way, and the options otherwise along I-25 are dismal even though it is a pretty drive.Trinidad is coming into it's own, with some fun restaurants and shops and galleries on Main St.

I think Orlandos in Taos may have some of the best NM food in the state.

Lunch, 1 to 3 hours north of Santa Fe.

IMO, no gems on that barren stretch. Las Vegas, NM (1 hr. E of SF on 25) is probably your best bet. I understand that he mom & pop that I liked (The Pantry) closed years ago - you might try the Rialto or the restaurant at the Palace Hotel.

Can you be more specific as to what town? Lunch or dinner?
