MD BBQ Bash in Bel Air, Aug. 12-13
While up at the Bel Air farmers market this morning I noticed that next week's market will be moved out of the parking lot and onto the street to make way for something called the "BBQ Bash." My ears perked up.
A couple of snippets from the site:
TAILGATE CHALLENGE: The Tailgate Challenge is a pork rib cooking contest to be held the afternoon of Friday, August 12, 2011 as part of the 10th Annual Maryland State BBQ Bash.
KCBS COMPETITORS: As always, the contest will include the four KCBS categories (chicken, pork ribs, pork brisket, and beef brisket) and judging will begin at noon on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Total prize money will be $12,500.00.
Here are last year's winners (if the names mean anything to anyone

Here are the times and location from the website:
This year's BBQ Bash will be held on Friday, August 12 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, August 13 from noon to 10 p.m. in the Mary Risteau (State Office Building) parking lot. The State Office Building parking lot is located in beautiful and historic Downtown Bel Air at 108 S. Bond Street, Bel Air, Maryland 21014.
Here's a supposed schedule of events (for what it's worth):

The one bummer is that if you go on Saturday expecting to take the opportunity to also check out the farmers market (which we've really grown to like a lot) it's going to be a lot smaller than usual, based on the number of vendors who said they were going to sit it out because of the Bash. (Plus the market ends at 11 and the bash starts at noon, so that's not ideal, but I guess they need time for traffic to turn over.
)Still... BBQ BASH!
