Afternoon tea in Calgary?

Hello Chowhounders
My daughter and I started an annual tradition of going to afternoon tea, just the two of us. We had a lovely time last year at Nectar Desserts but it is now closed. It wasn't the traditional afternoon tea since it was more of the dessert type eats but it was perfect for us since my girl is only 5. I know that the Fairmont Palliser has afternoon tea, but I would like to try somewhere different. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the advice!

  1. I was going to suggest Tea at the Reader Rock Garden Cafe but apparently it's closed while the City looks for a new vendor. We usually head to Banff Springs or the Palliser ourselves. My kids love the fact that they get their own pot of tea. :)

Seconding Fairmont Banff Springs--the pastries and sandwiches are top-notch, and you can't beat the gorgeous mountain setting.

On a weekday, you could try Sunterra in the TransCanada building. Grab a table by the window and peruse the pastry case. The decor is a sort of a faux-European street (complete with cobblestone)--might be fun for a younger girl. I would just avoid it at lunch (11 - 2) as it is much too busy.

Another idea is A Ladybug & Cafe in Aspen Woods. They have waffles, crepes, and a variety of Belgian pastries (croissants, tarts, pretty cakes, etc).

    2. Just some google searching ...
Heritage Park - Too late for this year but they had two events - Victoria Day and Heritage Day

Dove's Nest - alau (who also posts here) has an enthusiatic blog post from last year
You would have to check if they are still in business.

      1. I'm pretty sure that The Dove's Nest in Glenmore Landing does a full High Tea; I've been wanting to go.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to book for the Dove's Nest. They even have a special Children's Tea tray.
