solo dining/take out options near Lavaca and 6th downtown?

I'm in town for a week and staying downtown, near Lavaca and 6th (although I'm willing to walk, so it doesn't have to be right near that intersection) . Can anyone suggest any good options for solo dining or take out? i'm open to any kind of cuisine - as long as it's good LOL! thanks!

  1. There's tons of stuff in that area. Walton's Fancy & Staple. Frank. Several trailers, including Peached Tortilla, which often camps out at Star Bar (see their website for their schedule). Ranch 616. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I have to second the recommendation of Frank - just a really cool place and perfect for solo dining. They also have some of the best coffee in town.

    2. chez nous at 6th and neches has good food at great prices

      1. Had an excellent meal at La Condesa last weekend.

        1. As others have mentioned, there are a ton of restaurants within reasonable walking distance. Although, as hot as it's been, it might be worth a few bucks just to cab it.

          Here's a few suggestions:

          1) Parkside - Their happy hour from 5-7 is a really good deal. Lots of tasty items from the bar menu are half price. ~$10 for the bar steak and fries. Their regular dinner menu is really good also but a little pricey.

          2) Lambert's - The bbq here is average but I've really enjoyed the non-bbq items I have tried. I really liked the achiote seared chickpeas. They have a good bar menu as well with some local beers on tap and a tasty cheeseburger.

          3) Whole Foods at 6th and Lamar - if you haven't been you should check it out. It should be about a 4 or 5 block walk and has a ton of variety for take out(you can eat there as well). There's threads on here about things to get at whole foods so you might check them out for some good ideas.

nonlinear, in case you are thinking "whole foods is a supermarket"...
there are small cafes inside, where you can sit and eat and drink.
someone in the favorites from WF thread mentioned they often eat here when staying at a hotel.

          2. I love the counter at Royal Blue, a couple of blocks east on Congress. East Side pies, great panini, lots of cold ready made salads etc., and excellent coffee.
