Does anyone know if this place sells directly to the general public? (I saw a list of retail stores)

They certainly used to (at least 500ml cartons). Used to make a run there plus Ace Bakery nearby.
But quality of Metropolitan seemed to dip - a head-to-head comparison with Gelato Fresco (also not too far away) showed the Fresco to be denser and much more fragrant - so I've continued with Gelato Fresco (in theory - recent visits have not provided much selection there).

I posted below that they don't sell to the public now.

Does Gelato Fresco sell ice cream and gelato? I scanned their FAQ's and it seems they have one (vanilla) that would classify as ice cream. I didn't get a chance to read their website in full.

I have a problem with cellulose (yes, it's hard to avoid, but I'd personally avoid it in ice cream myself, and as much as i can, and I'm tired of making home made ice cream).

      Whole Foods carries it.

Thanks foodyDudey, I appreciate your fine eye for detail. I just got an email from them and they don't sell to the public :(
