Los Angeles Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the Greater Los Angeles Area (including Orange & Ventura Counties and SW San Bernardino County)

One night in LA

In town for one night and choosing between:
Melisse
Saam
Providence
Mozza
Animal or Son of a Gun
or somewhere else?

I know that list it pretty varied, but I am open to any really good food. I would prefer a good tasting menu (exception to Animal). Last time I was in town we went to Spago and it was incredible. I would love to try Urasawa but can't bring myself to spend the money.

    1. Melisse or Providence. It's kind of a toss up. But if you lean toward impeccably prepared and creative seafood - then Providence is your choice. In fact, if you're not a big fan of seafood - Providence will enlighten you.

I've been to Melisse many times. Terrific. I probably lean towards Melisse, but you can make a wrong choice with either. Get the grand tasting menu at either and you will have one delightful course after another. I'd also say book it early, and get the wine pairing. Do it right. It'll be an evening to remember.

All your restaurant choices are very good.

      1. I recently did the Chef's tasting at Providence and it was indeed quite memorable

I hear good things about melisse

Saam at the bazaar always looks awesome, but it appears more technique than sustenance to me. (still realy want to try it

from what I read, Providence is one of the best values.

        1. Spend the money...you wont regret it.

I, and most of the folks I know who have been to U, had the same trepidation yet walked out pleasantly surpised, with little buyer's remorse, feeling like it was money well-spent.
