Hunan changes coming [Fresno]

PolarBear Aug 4, 2011 03:40 PM

At a small lunch chowdown last Saturday Chef Liu shared some information with us. He plans to close most likely in September for about 4 months in order to expand the current location (knocking out the west wall). The menu will have a few as yet unkown changes.

He is also looking into setting up new venue, likely in Clovis, that will feature higher end cuisine and more of a fine dining place. Stay tuned.

Now that it's the last day of September, what's latest word on the schedule for closure? Can't believe it's been two years since my previous meal there.

I asked Kathy that exact question today, she said they're still waiting on the City permit process and don't really know yet.

She also asked me to put it out there to the hounds that they are back to being open 7 (seven) days a week (and apparently have been for a year or so) so I apologize for an earlier post I made saying they were closed on Mondays.

It looks like the weather's finally going to give us a taste of fall so maybe it's time to rally the Bay Area hounds for a chowdown before the remodel starts.

Any news about the remodel PB? I have a quick trip to Fresno and was hoping to squeeze in a meal at Hunan-- am I too late?

Still stalled in the permitting process for the new bathrooms.

Would love to have him in our area! Got a place opening up across the parking lot from us that would be great.

Our main concern Chris is whether there would be enough support in Clovis for him and Trelio.

When we last spoke with the server, he said they were moving into the place on Herndon and Clovis Ave. where Royal Palace is, next to Fat Paulie's, maybe that has changed. :)

We had a great meal last night at Hunan with my son and his wife. They are remodeling the space right now at Herndon & Clovis and plan to open there in about a month, can't wait! :)

Received word today that the original location of Hunan Restaurant on Cedar will reopen on Saturday, June 15, with Chef Liu.

Looks like a grand remodel, new kitchen, fixtures and TWO menus. No more secret list of the chef's specialties, although I am sure he will still cook for special requests.

Here is the link to a recent article in the local paper about the reopening. (hope the link stays good for a while)

There is actually a third menu now that lists the Sat/Sun offerings for lunch and dim sum. They will start serving either this weekend or the following.

So glad it's re-opening. We haven't been real happy with several experiences at the Clovis location and want to return to the Cedar restaurant. Maybe lunch this weekend! :)
