West Jefferson/Ashe County, North Carolina

Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in this area? Would prefer independent, local-sourced-type place if possible. Will settle for simply decent! Looking for dinner primarily. Thanks!

  1. I don't know of any place in West Jefferson that uses locally-sourced food. If you're looking for fine dining, you can go to the River House in Grassy Creek, it's about a 30 minute drive out Hwy 16 toward Virginia.

I have never eaten at Frasers, but it would be considered fine dining in WJ -- it's in what used to be Belk.

Brickstone Pizza and Past is decent, but probably does not use locally sourced food, and Geno's has been around since the 80s. Their garlic knots are addictive when available.

There is a farmer's market on Saturday mornings on the back street, one might inquire if a local chef is using local food.

For a local tradition, go to Smithey's for a Smithey burger.

this is from the WJ website:

    River House Restaurant
1896 Old Field Creek Rd, Grassy Creek, NC 28631

    Smithey's Cafe
05 N Second Ave, West Jefferson, NC 28694

Thanks! Locally-sourced was probably too ambitious! Really looking for a somewhat fine dining or decent place with good food and abc permits. Did I see that Matthews 102 North closed?

Not that Brickstone is fine dining, but they use local ingredients. I really don't know about Michael's. When I asked people if it had closed, they said, hmm, maybe it is...

Fraser's would probably be the only fine dining in West Jefferson. It's not a very big town.

The River House is very good, the road to Grassy Creek is straight. It's a nice setting on the river.
