Steak Tips - Watertown/Waltham/Newton/Belmont

where is the best market or butchery to buy steak tips ? Years ago at McKinnon's market in Danvers - they had the best tips - we'd grill them up and moan through the meal. Now that we are in Waltham, other than Whole Foods, who has really good marinated tips (or chicken, turkey, etc etc) ?

    Two other thoughts in Watertown would be Meat Spot in Watertown Square and Coolidge Variety in Coolidge Square. I have not been to either in years, but maybe someone else could chime in about about their meats these days?

      On the pricey end, Dewars in Newton Center has delicious marinated steak tips.

        Not as close as you like, but I really like the house-marinade steak tips at McKinnon's in Davis Square (it is not owned by the same people as Danvers or the others, must have been at one time, but don't know the story). The McKinnon's tips are somewhat vinegary, not as sweet as say, Dom's. They are quite tender, too.

          I like the ones at DePasquale's on Watertown Street in Nonantum a lot. And you pop next door and get some lobster tails for your dessert from Antoines. Happiness.

            You aren;t far from the Somerville MacKinnons, which I like for price and quality. In Newton (Nonantum), de Pasquales on Watertown gets high praise for their housemade sausage and they also have steak tips and strip steaks.

              we are huge fans of DePasquale's sausages - I never thought of them for steak tips though...

              The Meat House in Arlington Heights has very good steak tips.

                We just had the burgundy marinated tips from the Meat House and they were very good. Nice wine flavor but still a good beefy taste. We ordered from the counter instead of getting the cryovac packages in the refrigerator case.

                I've seen some hounds recommend Dom's from Malden, but haven't tried them personally. D'agostino's in Arlington has just started to carry a few flavors of their tips. I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Tough choice with the Meat House just a couple of blocks away.

                For more generic but still tasty tips, you can try the Steakhouse Tips at Wagonwheel Farmstand on Waltham St. in Lexington, right over the Waltham border near Shaw's. We occasionally grab these for a steak and gorgonzola salad and they scratch the itch.
