CHEAP but GOOD Amsterdam and Berlin
I've been searching the boards but a little pressed for time to compile a really good list. I am on a last minute trip to Berlin and Amsterdam and am really interested in good places to eat and drink on a pretty tight budget.
Normally i spend a lot of time researching this stuff but its a little bit of a last minute trip.
I am interested in authentic ethnic cuisine from the immigrant communities and also of course traditional favourites of both the cities.
If you guy scould help me it would be fabulous and probably save my holiday!!
Aside, I've been recommended these places for Berlin, mostly in Kreuzberg - what are your thoughts? -
Noodles & Figli, Kreuzberg
Kimchi Princess, Kreuzberg
Hamburger Heaven, Kreuzberg
Miss Saigon, Kreuzberg
King of Falafel, Kreuzberg
Cookies Cream, Mitte
As for Amsterdam -- don't know where you're staying, but Bird Thaise Snackbar serves up some pretty awesome Thai fare, and Burgermeester (several locations, I've only been to the one in the Jordaan) has delish burgers.
Singel 404 or Small World Catering for fab sandwiches.
Noodles & Figli has really gone downhill lately - the owners left for Munich.
Mercan for Turkish home-style cooking on Wiener Str. in Xberg.
Yarok Falafel on Torstr. in Mitte - their platter for two is amazing. Toca Rouge, also on Torstr, for very good & cheap Chinese-influenced food.
Spaghetti Western on Torstr. (Torstr. is the new Eat Street).
Gasthaus zum Mitterhofer for out-of-this-world Tyrolean food (Fichtestr. near Südstern)
Thalassa on Koertestr. for Greek -- also near Südstern.
Hamburger Heaven is awesome. The real deal, of course, is to be found at The Bird:
Sasaya is good, but I wouldn't call it cheap. Also, if you have a craving for good Mexican (yes, it exists!), go to Maria Bonita on Danziger. Great quesadillas & tacos.
