Visiting Boston - With a Teenager
Hello Everyone, I will be visiting Boston with my GF and her 14-year old son. His taste is quite sophisticated and he is well-behaved so no issues there but I do know that some restaurants just prefer an all adult clientele.
I am hoping that you can recommend restaurants for lunch and dinner that would be "friendly". Any type of food is good. We are staying near Quincy Market but don't mind walking or taking transit. I love seafood which I would assume is excellent in Boston.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Please don't tell your GF you posted this. A teenager with sophisticated tastes will be welcome at any restaurant at all times.

She wouldn't mind and neither would her son. Sometimes the welcome at some restaurants is strained, in my experience. They are tolerated because they are with adults but it is clear that the restuaranteur would prefer that they not be there. Or maybe Toronto (where I live) is different than Boston. Since there are so many good restaurants that do welcome everyone I would rather stick to those and since I don't know Boston I am looking for appropriate suggestions.

re: Attknee
Maybe Toronto is different. I really can't think of a restaurant in Boston that would just "tolerate" a 14-year old. When our kids were younger (even younger than 14) we've taken them to fine restaurants in town and never picked up on that attitude, but maybe we are oblivious. Of course, they were always dressed appropriately and were behaved.

I'd think that a 14yo would be welcome in any restaurant in Boston. If you're comfortable with it, I'm sure the restaurant will have no problem.
There are many threads in the archive that'll give you some ideas (there's plenty of good chow in Boston--it'll help you narrow it down a little). Neptune Oyster and Island Creek Oyster Bar are good bets for seafood. Courthouse Seafood and East Coast Grill are also good bets.

+1! All great seafood recommendations - especially NO and ICBO. I can't imagine a 14 year-old getting the hairy fish-eye anywhere in Boston unless you all tried to go someplace formal like the Ritz or L'Espalier in jeans and sneakers.
If you are going to walk the Freedom Trail my favorite spots in the North End are L'Osteria for lunch and Monica's on Richmond Street for dinner. And of course Pizzeria Regina. L'Osteria serves very good basic Southern Italian food. I'm particularly partial to their antipasto and their stratacelli soup. Monica's is more upscale and expensive and only open for dinner. Regina's has probably the best pizza in Boston - pre- WW II brick oven. It's one of those places you'll remember every time you get pizza somewhere else.
You didn't mention your plans. If you are thinking of taking a whale watch trip or a boat to the Harbor Islands there are a bunch of good restaurants right near the Aquarium. And re: that - the guided tour of the colonial fort in Boston Harbor is very interesting.

Walking thru the food court at Faneuil Hall is pretty eye catching for most, especially teenagers.
Legal Harborside is in the seaport area and located at the still new liberty wharf. It is on the water and pretty nice. If it is crowded and or you think you may want some place smaller, try Yankee Lobster which is a few hundred yards further on the same side, and the food is just as good, and the chowder is better.
