Washing wine glasses

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post but I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this:

We bought some new everyday wine glasses and for some strange reason they never come clean in the dishwasher. My previous glasses always came out sparkling but these are dull and spotty and sometimes even have particles stuck in the base. It can't be the dishwasher because it never happened before.

My question is - are some glass easier to clean then others? Could the glass be defective?
Anyone else ever experience this problem?

  1. When the new glasses were washed, were you at the end of your water softener cycle? That would explain it.

    1. re: Fowler

If only it were that simple Fowler.

Honestly I don't know what's up with these particular glasses. All else washes up perfectly fine. This is why I'm thinking the glass is either cheap or defective. They look okay until you hold them up to the light - then they are all blotchy and cloudy.

    2. did you change dishwasher soap brand ? or did the soap changed "recipe" to have less phosphore in it ? (or other "cleaning ingredients ?).

I'd try cleaning them by hand for a couple of time to see if there is something that is clinging to them from either the packaging or manufacturing process.

Maybe have a call to the store you bougth them from and ask them if there is somrthing special about them.
