Ed's Chowder House RW Lunch: Disappointing

Our family decided to go to Ed's Chowder House yesterday because they were offering an interesting sounding RW lunch menu, including Sundays as indicated online and when they called to confirm our reservation. A little bit of a game to get the RW menu, which the waiter said was not offered on Sunday but, when we asked that he check, we were offered. The food was OK but uninspired: a fine tuna tartare appetizer and a respectable corn chowder, but the sea bass sandwich seemed virtually unseasoned with perhaps 2 ounces of fish and a side of run-of-the-mill cole slaw. The only comment-worthy item was a terrific bread basket that included cheddar biscuits and corn bread sticks. Service was surprisingly unpolished. When each course was brought out there was another round of "who gets the..." and dishes were cleared while some were still eating, a bit intrusive. All in all not a terrible experience but one we will likely not repeat.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience but glad for the review because it was one of the places I was considering for lunch next Sunday. Did you have any other good options you were considering in the Lincoln Center area for a Sunday lunch?

I'm a fan of Atlantic Grill, also a great value, and the new one across from Lincoln Center is a cool, comfortable spot. 'Cesca isn't bad, a $29 prix fixe vs. Atlantic Grill's a la carte, though not as convenient if you want to stay close to Lincoln Center. Both have brunch as well as lunch options available.

We had lunch at Ed's Chower House last summer. We ordered from the regular menu, and the food was excellent, including some of the best fisn & chips we've had. And those biscuits were phenomenal!

With regard to service, it sounds as though it's very hit and miss -- maybe more miss than hit.. We lucked out and had a very personable and attentive waiter, and there were no glitches. However, when our daughter and son-in-law subsequently ate there, their service was horrible.

Thanks to both. Any suggestions for what to order on the Atlantic Grill brunch menu?

I also heard that Atlantic Grill can be very loud, that there are booths on the sides and a back room. Any ideas about the best place to sit, prettiest and most fun, audible for your dining partner?

I wonder if you are thinking of the East Side one, I certainly don't think of the West Side one as noisy -- quite the contrary. I have only been in the room near the 63rd St. entrance, quiet with nicely spaced tables, very attractive and soothing. My favorite brunch item is the crab cake benedict. Good lunch items include the chicken cobb salad and the seafood cobb.

Maybe it was the east side one about which I read that. Thanks for the suggestions and for the Lincoln suggestion, too. Great options.
