I've been scouring the board trying to find the name of the seafood place on Spadina that a number of posters have mentioned lately. Can't find it. West side of Spadina. "House of...." maybe??? Lots of good recommendations and I recall that it can be a bit pricey. Does anyone know the place? Just headed out to try find it....
Thanks.

  1. I think you are referring to "Taste of China" which is on the west side of Spadina. However "Xam Yu" on the east side of Spadina also has its fans for Seafood cooked the Chinese way.

I had some not-so-good experiences in Xam Yu, I think one time "mussels in black bean sauce" turned out to be frozen New Zealand ones with gloppy sauce on top. The next time I did ask before ordering and they were fresh mussels. Another time something tasted off, can't remember what it was.

Taste of China is good but I wouldn't say it's pricey. Wonder if OP is thinking of E Pan, which is a tad pricier than others in that area.

Hi Teep: I was going more by information gleaned from reading CH than my own experiences. I have yet to try Taste of China, but there have been recent glowing postings about their seafood. My own current favorites on the east side of Spadina over places like Xam Yu and New Sky are E Pan and Lee Garden (definitely one of the pricier places on Spadina).

Here's a very recent, positive review of Taste of China from Joanne Kates. ;-)

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I was thinking of Taste of China. Went there and it was too full so ended up at Xam Yu. Had a delicious fresh striped bass, steamed with garlic and green onions, and some sauteed pea leaves. Thanks TLong for the quick reply yesterday.
