well, Westbrook and Clinton are not in either New Haven or Fairfiled County.
Lazy Lobster makes a good lobster roll.
Westfair Fish and Chips on Post Road East in Westyport makes about the best lobster roll in Fairfield County and would be my first choice in the 2 requested counties.

The post below mentioned Dino's in North Haven, but it is way past its prime and the food is mediocre at best. I gave it my annual chance about two weeks ago and won't go back for another year.

      2. Dino's Drive-in. Rt. 5 Wallingford, CT is good. Most of the better places are in Middlesex and New London counties.

        1. Do you want it with mayo or butter?

Either mayo or butter. I don't mind paying $18 for a lobster roll because I realize that lobster is expensive and that it is time consuming to get the meat, but I don't want to pay that price for a skimpy lobster roll with claw meat on a wonder bread hotdog bun!

I'll second Lobster Shack in Branford. Foot long buttered toasted roll with lobster meat that is soaked in butter. Start with a dozen grilled clams. Bring your own beer/wine. Grab a table by the river. Hard to beat. One other thought, Lenny's Indian Head in Branford has added a hot buttered lobster roll to the original lobster salad variety. Probably due to the Lobster Shack's popularity. Its was pretty darn good too.

That sounds fabulous. I will definitely try the Lobster Shack. I am a huge fan of Lenny's in Branford too. I have had their lobster salad which was very good and am happy to hear that they are now offering the hot buttered variety, although I never get lobster at Lenny's because their prices are ridiculously high, even when lobsters are being sold at lower prices all around the area and even when so many people go there for the lobster. I never could understand their high lobster prices, even though I am willing to pay their prices because their other seafood is so fresh (scallops!) and I am addicted to their onion rings and coleslaw.

I recently tried the Lobster Shack for the first time and it was so delicious I went back the next day. I also really like the one at Stowe's in West Haven. Clam Castle in Madison grills the bread on their lobster rolls which adds a nice unexpected touch also.

I had a good one at BanC house in Norwalk. Not overly generous but big chunks of tail meat and a nice toasted roll.
