Paleteria La Michoacana in King City

National Ice Cream Month ends tomorrow. I’ve had the chance to enjoy the offerings from Paleteria Y Neveria La Michoacana in King City a couple times. The ice creams and paletas are made in-house with all natural ingredients and flavors. The store is right on the main drag and has a few small tables in a courtyard for outdoor seating.

My first time I sampled several flavors of ice cream and especially liked the blueberry ice cream. More recently I enjoyed this Tutti frutti water paleta with a mix of fruits (and no cream).

The flavors are fresher than the big brands sold in the grocery stores and are not as candy-sweet. I like the more natural taste and higher fruit content at La Michoacana and feel it’s worth a detour any time you’re passing through King City.

and the arroz (rice) flavor paleta

    1. on our post-25th homeward transit we chose King City for a refreshment stop and La Michoacana was the only shop on Broadway with a juicer for my spouse's fix of fresh carrot juice. we tried a scoop each of the elote and pistachio ; both were tasty and refreshing, with plenty of flavor not smothered by the fat or sugar that most mainstream helados rely on. in his selection of paletas alone, there were 14 varieties of paletas de leche and 11 more de agua. the interior of the shop is very cheerful, colorful, and bright.

Thank you for the update. The owner had said he'd like to open one in Salinas, but can't find the right space.

      2. For my once-a-year or so visit to La Michoacana, I picked the 50:50 fresa (strawberry) and vanilla paleta, $2.35. The strawberry had bits of fruit in it as well.

The owner also offered me a taste of elote ice cream. I asked him when he was opening a branch in Salinas. He said he would like to, but can't find the right venue. He also said he was looking at Paso Robles.
