Lunch and dinner for one on a special occasion Monday.
Am treating myself to a nice day. Would appreciate suggestions. French, Italian, Spanish, ...?
Lunch on Upper West side. Budget $50-100 incl. one glass of wine and tip.
Dinner. Budget $120-200 incl. wine and tip. Anywhere except mid-town. Work there and looking for an escape. Not sit at the bar. Would go to JoJo's because I like the food and it's so lovely but don't want to be surrounded by couples. How would ABC be? Feel like this is a tall order.

For lunch on the UWS you could try Bar Boulud, across from Lincoln Center. Beautiful charcuterie. Degustation actually sounds like the perfect choice for dinner as well - you could order either the 10-course tasting or put together your own meal very easily within your budget. There will probably be couples there, but it's not really a romantic restaurant - I'm not a big solo diner but I would be perfectly comfortable doing so there. Casa Mono might also be a good choice.

Yes, it is. For Lunch on the Upper West Side, consider going to Jean Georges if that's far enough north for you (it's almost Midtown, but not quite). Get early reservations for lunch and late reservations at dinner; the 10-course tasting menu at Degustation (which I loved when I had it about 2 1/2 years ago) is substantial.

Jean George is an excellent recommendation. Having both lunch and dinner there might be odd (esp in the same clothes). I live in Brooklyn and won't be going home to change. I should relax my no mid-town pronouncement, because leaves a lot of good places out.
Okay, one meal at Jean Georges for sure. Any other thoughts in light of my increased geographical range? Thanks.

I was suggesting lunch at Jean Georges and dinner at Degustation, though there are many other excellent choices for dinner. Keep in mind, though, that everyone sits essentially "at the bar" at Degustation, because it's really just a kitchen with seats at a counter around its perimeter.
