Trip report June : Le St-Amour, Le Pain Béni, Bistrot sous le Fort, Lapin Sauté
Wanted to taste Quebec foie gras. We had the assorted plate of 7 different preparations. Paired with a great wine: a french winery, grown in California, using an italian grape. worked for us.
Main course: ordered the red deer. Cooked to a medium-rare perfection, to be expected. The au jus sauce was great . My husband had the rack of lamb encrusted with pistachios and hazelnuts pressed potatoes with rosemary with mint-honey cooking jus. I had to taste it: really delicious
Finally came dessert. A creme brule with a few twists. A serious flambe presentation (it was on fire for about 1 minute at the table) with marsh-mellows on the side for toasting!
Great meal loved it $$$$$
Le Pain Beni
Another tasting of foie gras! We shared the foie gras “au torchon” with green cardamom, slow-poached beets, rhubarb cake, pickled mustard seeds this time paired with vin de glace from Niagara Falls oh oh what a mix really outstanding!
Where still in lobster time so tried lobster and sautéed scallops with black tea , puréed white beans, braised radishes and many other ingredients worked out so well
My husband had a so unusual cut of meat grilled bone-in beef tenderloin serve with a french “bordelaise” sauce with foie gras, fork-mashed potatoes with fresh horseradish, portabella au gratin
can any restaurant in Paris serve that dish please, please...
Dessert a very canadian dessert : a maple custard “verrine”, with tonka bean yogurt, cranberry pound cake and “Fine Sève" a local liquor.
Really great meal for a fraction of the price $$$
Bistro sous le Fort,
For lunch I had mushroom consommé a wildboar sausage with shallots sauce that was good but my husband had the smoked salmon and green oignons spaghetti that was average. No dessert
Average - good $$$ for lunch
Great lunch simple, inexpensive food served on a busy walkway in old Quebec. We ate the rabbit leg and duck leg confit, and the rabbit tagliatelle. The dessert maple sugar pie was the best part of the meal
Good food $$
