Convention center dining

Am heading to town next weekend. Looking for good restaurants walking distance from convention center, especially good mexican food. Originally from Denver and miss the good mexican food we enjoyed out west. Price no object and would love a good view as well.

Great suggestions - we definitely can take a cab as well, so anyplace somewhat near. What would be other good places that aren't Mexican -we have 2 nights. Thanks!

If you're only in town for 2 nights and will be only in the downtown area, don't even consider Mexican.

Cafe Chloe is reliable, very good and usually packed. Cowboy Star does a great job on steaks. Top of the Market is a pretty good choice for fish, just don't eat downstairs unless it's at the oyster bar. If money is no object consider the Grant Grill in the U.S. Grant Hotel.

You can hop a trolley to Little Italy and cruise the streets until you find something that suits your tastes.

Enjoy your stay, we're going to have great weather this weekend.

Depends on what kind of Mexican food you want. There's a spot downtown called Candela's, which is high end gourmet Mexican cuisine - not tacos/burritos, but more like fine dining.

If what you're after is the aforementioned taco/burrito thing, Valentine's is a decent taco shop down there, but definitely nothing fancy.

Downtown/the Gaslamp is not noted for Mexican restaurants, but I would look at La Puerta and El Vitral for fun places, with decent food, Candelas is upscale, I like their Coronado location better. Average places with good bars are Fred's Mexican Restaurant and Rockin' Baja Lobster.

Roy's in the Marriott Marquis will have good views and really good food as well. Top of the Market would be a long walk, but it is a good seafood restaurant or you could jump on the ferry to Coronado from the convention center and eat at Candelas Coronado on the water or Il Fornaio for passable Italian. For great Italian in the Gaslamp there is BICE - San Diego.

You could also ride the trolley two stops into Little Italy and there are several good Italian restaurants in there and a good Argentine steakhouse, Puerto la Boca.

I'm not sure about mexican food, but Cowboy Star and Cafe Chloe are within walking distance (albeit a little further of a walk) and are board favorites.

To get good mexican food, you'll probably have to catch a cab somewhere... I'm sure Dining Diva can give you to scoop.

Which hotel are you staying at? That might help a little...
