What's the best sit-down mexican with margaritas in SD?

We're visiting from Sf and wondering what's the best sit-down mexican, either old-fashioned or new-fangled, with good margaritas, and preferably good guac, in SD?

Where are you staying? There are fun places with decent food in the Gaslamp like El Vitral and La Puerta. Fred's and Rockin' Baja Lobster have very average Mexican food with really good margaritas. Hillcrest has Ortega's for Puerto Nuevo style Mexican Food and Baja Betty's for again, average food, but great margaritas.

El Agave in Old Town has good, upscale Mexican food, but I only drink straight tequila there since they have like 100 different ones. Candelas on Coronado is much the same, upscale Mexican.

Miguel's in Coronado has a fun atmosphere, great margaritas, but again average food.

El Zarape in Normal Heights has good food and margaritas.

The best Mexican food in SD you will find is generally in places with no or limited liquor licenses.

Thanks for the options. We're staying in La Jolla, but have a car and may be touring about a bit. It does seem a tough equation - reasonably priced, tasty food, with good margaritas can be hard to come by.

How is Cantina Mayahuel? The trifecta of moles, happy hour, and margaritas sounds very good. (We'd be eating on a Monday or Tuesday night.)

Cantina Mayahuel is a great choice, especially on Mondays when margaritas are $5 and the daily special is three street tacos for $5.

Very good, but more modern style than traditional, a Bobby Flay or Mary Sue Milliken kind of place.
