where to buy lamb?

I am jonesing for grilled lamb kebobs but not at $10/lb at Shaws. Any suggestions? Butterflied or boneless leg is great but I'll hack away at a bone in if necessary.

You may want to give Coolidge Variety and Deli or The Meat Spot in Watertown a call. A friend gets all her lamb there and speaks highly of it.

I'm going to suggest you try this cut; lamb top round roast. I much prefer it to leg of. It's not common but some of the places mentioned probably have it. It's $10/lb at Savenor's but I'm sure less at these other places..none of the connective tissue of the leg, lean and great flavor.

Here's a pic. I cut into 2" cubes, marinate and grill with onions, peppers.

Seconding McKinnon's. If you're not in the neighborhood, probably best to call ahead just to make sure they've got what you're looking for.

Market Basket used to have excellent prices on butterflied legs, but I think they've gone up a little. They still might be under $5/lb. Costco also has good lamb at good prices, but you probably won't save any money over McKinnon's or MB.

If you normally shop at Shaw's, don't look at the prices on stuff at MB or McKinnon's when you go. You might pass out.

Just to follow up: MB's boneless legs are $7/lb today; bone-in is something like $6.30, and stew meat was $4-5.

At costco boneless leg of lamb is usually between $5-$6 /lb.

2nd that, buy a leg, cube it up, marinate and grill. Sometimes I take about 1/3 of it and grind it for lamb burgers.
