Why don't you take the trolley from Mission Valley to the Gaslamp...have drinks at the Top of the Hyatt and then take the water taxi over to Coronado and have dinner and drinks at either Candelas, 1500 Ocean at the Hotel Del (you'll need a cab but short and sweet) walk the boardwalk, see the famous Mansion crime scene, stroll to the piano bar for a mack the knife sing-a-long and then back on the water taxi for after dinner drinks somewhere in the Gaslamp and then head out on the trolley..you can drink without driving and have a real good time with no DUI checkpoint hassles!
You gotta go big when it's girlfriends birthday...at least creative wise..
Have fun!›6 Replies -
Mission Valley's better food is mostly small chains like King's Fish House, Gordon Biersch, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, etc. Going into Hillcrest and Bankers Hill give you options like Cucina Urbana, Hexagone, Bretrand's at Mr. A's, the Prado and more.

Hillcrest and mission hills are just up the hill from mission valley. There's nothing really good in mv. Check the search function for lists o plenty.
