El Toro Cafe Fresno??

Jeff Avis Jul 27, 2011 06:01 PM

It appears El Toro Cafe is no longer in business. Anyone have an update?

    Yesterday's paper reported that the El Toro Cafe (NE Cedar & Shields) "will reopen any day." The general manager is purchasing it from his father who is retiring and they're waiting for escrow to close. El Toro Tambien (NE Bullard & West) previously owned by different folks from the same family as ETC, will reopen sometime around Dec. 1, after some remodeling as a second location of Casa Corona (NE Herndon & Cedar). They reported that most of the 18 member staff at ETC will be returning. Good news for the 'burg.

      PB, have you eaten at Casa Corona (Herndon/Cedar)? Your thoughts? The new location will be close to me, so I'm hoping for the best.

        We had a family get together there some time ago and to be honest, can't recall much about it, probably because if we're traveling across town it'll be to hit Hunan, Trelio, or somesuch. Be sure and post on the one in our hood when you go, we sure need some better Mexican fare in the area. BTW have you tried Mariscos Colima on W. Shaw (NE @ Brawley)?

        Also, fish tacos at El Toro Cafe today were as good as ever, place was packed, and Jeff Avis was correct in his post on the other thread about the salsa being kicked up a notch.

          >>> can't recall much about it<<<
          Must of meant the Margs were good, an important item in a Mexican restaurant to me!
          Yes, I'll post when we go to the new one. Just don't get over to El Toro since my SIL&BIL moved north.
          Haven't been to Mariscos yet either.

      The owner's did decide to close. They had been trying to sell the business for awhile, from what I heard. Mike (Shirinian) at Elbow said that they did find a buyer and were going to be fine. Hope this information is true - the Randy Burrito is sorely missed by myself and the BF!

      Here's an interesting read on El Toro (and other eateries): http://tastefresno.com/blogs/the-cure...

        I can't say for sure, but their facebook page seems to indicate some sort of temporary hiatus. I think they plan on re-opening, but have yet to name a date. Although their last post was two weeks ago, so maybe things have changed since then. I'm not sure. To be completely honest, I've never actually eaten there myself (although it looks delicious).
