I didn't think OP meant she was ONLY interested in places she hadn't been. Just telling us the kind of places she likes.

My favorites for a special occasion would be: (in no particular order)
    Lorena's
    CulinAriane
    A Toute Heure
    Amanda's
    Edward's Steak House

    A Toute Heure
232 Centennial Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016

Have you been to Nicholas Angelina? IMO still the benchmark for fine NJ dining. But I prefer the bar over the restaurant.

Thanks everyone! joonjoon, I have been to Nicholas a few times, but it is one of those restaurants that everyone loves and I hate! I don't want to go on about that topic right now, but we are still up in the air between NY and NJ. We might do this weekend at a place in NJ, and tonite in Manhattan.

        I appreciate everyone's help!!!

Sorry you didn't like Nicholas Angelina, but if you haven't tried the bar you should give it at least 1 try. I think it's my favorite place to eat in NJ, period.

If you're considering NYC, it obviously opens up a lot of options. I went to M. Wells in LIC a few days ago and it was gluttonous, decadent, over the top heaven. Not exactly a romantic anniversary spot but an absolute must if you love food.

Also recently had a very nice meal at GILT, and heard amazing things about the lunch deal at Del Posto, but you have the whole NYC board for that. Hope you enjoy your anniversary dinner!

Ninety Acres hands down. A unique place that suits a special occasion to a "T".!!

We were really impressed with 90 Acres last month when we went. Good suggestion.

Nicholas. Great atmosphere and service with really good food.

Amanda's in Hoboken, NJ. Very romantic. If you let them know you are celebrating an anniversary I'm sure they will set you up with a cozy table. The restaurant is situated in two adjoining converted brownstones. The food and service is top quality. The owners, Joyce and Eugene Flinn, are a lovely couple and at the top of their game: they know service. Doug, the floor manger back after a couple of years' absence, is just as professional. Amanda's is really a great place.

I second Lorena's. Small, intimate atmosphere, top notch service and great food. A winning combination.

I thought the OP was looking for places she hasn't been to? The list is just for us to know what she has liked in the past. No?

I would choose between Nicholas and Lorena.
