Any tips for where to eat in Mammoth Lakes? I don't see much on the threads out here, which is probably a bad sign. We are open for anything, casual clothes are the only requirement. Only want expensive if it is very good, though (and I suspect Mammoth has some expensive, mediocre places). Thanks!
Sorry there have been no responses. None of us have had much luck in this area- stick with pizza and hamburgers would be my suggestion. I went to a perfectly awful Thai place a number of years ago - don't know if it is still there or not but even something you would expect not to get screwed up and flavored down, this area managed to do badly. Feed yourself, but maybe not expect to dine here. And many people have condos who come here so they cook at home - fewer needs for restaurants. Might want to try the Convict Lake Restaurant which is known for finer dining in this area, but it a bit of a drive away. I suspect it is "casual" simply because of its location. http://www.convictlake.com/restaurant...
Although it's been about five years since I was in Mammoth Lakes, I have to echo glbtrtr's assessment: There's a lot of perfectly mediocre food to be had in Mammoth, at all price points. There's also a lot of unimaginably bad food, again at all price points. I hate to say it, but chains may be your best friends...at least you'll know what to expect.
The Convict Lake Inn is excellent. The Whoa Nellie Deli about half an hour north on 395 has great food--it is located in the Mobile station at the turnoff for Hwy 120 to Yosemite. The basic dinnerhouses -- Whiskey Creek, Slocums, Moguls, Chart House -- are good solid restaurants. Nik & Willeys makes good pizza and hot sandwiches.
