OK, did my JTM thing yesterday, and found them at Louis. They were the Australian finger limes, about the size of a large olive, red color. Price was $150 a kilo, and had to be brought in from the back of the store. Both 3 of them for a toal of $7.50.
Got home and cut one up and i must say a little disappointed. Pretty dry membrane on the inside, difficult to pull out limes crystals (!) they were that small. Reminded me of smelt roe rather than sturgeon roe! Got two more to try out later today, so crossing my fingers! Will post pics of the effort.

Finger limes are awesome. They had them once at the IGA in the Ste. Dorothee Smart Center for 2$ each I think. I don't think I have ever seen them at the JTM though. I mixed the pearls into a gribiche sauce and had it with fish. In Australia they make preserves but that would be cost prohibitive here.

Picked up some of these last weekend from the fruit/veg store in the Atwater market. Cashier even let me taste a few "pearls" from one that she had opened to show another customer. I believe they were about $2 each, and kept behind the cash. Very interesting texture - they do indeed pop. Caviar-like in appearance, definitely reminiscent of lime, but much more subtle and delicate, almost floral taste. Used them to garnish a salmon tartar with avocado. Although, as the meal was served outside and it was getting dark, and the pearls themselves are quite small, it was necessary to point out their presence. Definitely recommend trying them if you can get your hands on some, a novel and enjoyable experience.
