Thai?
Hey there,
I live in the Elgin area of Illinois and I was just wondering if anyone knew any good Thai restaurants?
Im trying to stay within 30-40min of my area. Trying to take the girlfriend out to a nice Thai dinner but not sure of where to go.
If you can help thank you so much

I assume you mean within 30-40 minutes of Elgin, which rules out the city. I like Taste of Thai in Hoffman Estates. It's been there a long time, it's reliably consistent, it's actually a very nice place, and the Thai food is excellent. It's about 10 minutes from Elgin, in a strip mall so you have to look closely for the sign, or check the excellent directions on their website. www.tasteofthaionline.com
I also like altThai in Arlington Heights. It's a little bit further but still maybe 20-25 minutes. Their Thai food is very good. The atmosphere is very contemporary, not quite as nice as Taste of Thai (I mean, it's not a dump, but it's rather basic in terms of seating, decor, etc). www.altthai.com

re: chicgail
I enjoyed Alt Thai in Arlington Heights. Small menu, but the traditional items were there. Talked my friend into a curry which she had never had before and it was excellent. Very contemporary room, but somehow soothing. Excellent service. Higher end pricing than you might anticipate in a Thai restaurant.

If you are looking for authentic Thai, I would recommend Spoon, Sticky Rice or TAC. If you are looking for upscale and romantic, I would recommend Arun. If you are looking for contemporary and "happening" and fun I would recommend Silom 12 or Thalia Spice.
