Mangosteen in Chinatown in August?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of taking my wife to Montreal for her birthday. We are big foodies and one of my favorite foods that she has never had is fresh Mangosteen. Is it in season in mid august? If it is available fresh where should we go for it?

Thanks so much,

  1. This is a fruit that a group of us tried really hard to find in NYC last august under the assumption that it is more readily available there than here. We were unsuccessful in New York, but when we returned home we found that mangosteens were actually readily available in Montreal's chinatown. It seems that most Chinese grocers carry them for a fair part of the year. I would assume they'll be around in August. Many of these are located on St. Laurent just below Rene Levesque around De La Gauchetiere.

      1. I found them today in chinatown. It was on st laurent below rene levesque at a small asian grocery. They had them by the bag of what looked like 10+ for 5.49$ a pound. To me the bag seemed to weigh atleast 2-3 pounds so I was hesitant to spend up to 15$ for what could of been a bad batch. Let me know how they are.
