Help! Ideas needed for group dinner...fun scene...reasonable prices...
Hi everyone! I'm in search of a great restaurant with a fun atmosphere for a group of 12 people coming in from out of town. The occasion is a family dinner before a birthday celebration that will occur the next day. Anywhere in Manhattan...reasonable prices...fun scene...group friendly!
Dinner will be Friday, September 23rd. We are doing Sammy's Roumanian the following night. No cuisines to avoid and almost everyone eats meat (one that just eat's fish). I would say about $40/person without tax, tip, alcohol.

I have to organize group dinners of the same size and budget several times a year. These are sports' team dinners. I usually default to East Asian style places because of the convivial group dining experience, budget adherence, and the restaurants seem to be capable of handling the group size with ease. We usually do grilled meats.
We've done them at Hsin Wong in Chinatown for BBQed pork and duck. This place unfortunately closed, but you can explore similar places. I think they have a sister place. I've also booked a private room at Congee Village on Allen. It's Cantonese cuisine. They will not charge you for the room and will work with you if you want to establish a set menu. Yakiniku West is Japanese style Korean-BBQ in the East Village that has a seperate nook upstairs for groups. It's a Japanese style room though. Not for everyone. In the same vain foodwise, Mandangasui on 36th St., Korean BBQ by Koreans, did a good job with our large group. All these places took Friday night reservations.
