Question about Babbos

Hi,

We are coming into the city on Friday morning. We can't get reservations at Babbos, but we usually eat early. I was thinking that we could just show up at around 5pm and sit at the bar? Does anyone know how crowded it gets at the bar by 5pm? They said they have first come first serve at the bar. Should I get their at 4:45pm to get a seat?

Thanks!
Carolann

We recently waited for a bar seat or walk-in table at Babbo - got there around 4:30 and there was already a line (this was a Saturday). We were lucky to get the last available spot. The earlier you can get there, the better off you'll be.

Just in case we can't get in, can you recommend another restaurant for us?

Do you want another Italian? Same area?

Yes, different food like Babbos. My husband gets bored with "the same 'ol food"

Lupa, another Batali restaurant, is a very short walk away.

A little bit further away is Dell'anima, run by someone who used to work at Babbo.

Babbo (singular) has both a handful of tables in the front as well as a bar. You can dine at either a walk-in table or at the bar. Given that it is a popular destination for out of town visitors, I'd arrive closer to 4:30pm since you'll be there on a Friday. The bar opens at 5pm, the kitchen does not start serving until 5:30pm.

I think they open at 5:30. I've shown up a few times around that time and have had no problem being seated at the bar. That's weekdays. Weekends, all bets are off.
