Need recs for a chic, mid priced restaurant (non-asian food), for foreign clients, large group of 14!
I have a group of foreign clients from asia coming for a dinner. They obviously do not want asian food. My limitations are that it not be too overpriced (preferabley $30 and under for an entree), but the space should be chic/upscale looking, since it needs to look somewhat impressive. Any kind of food is welcome except asian or asian fusion. Can be anywhere in manhattan. WE have a large group of 14 ppl! need chow hounds help!! TIA!

Asellina (in the Gansevoort Park Ave South Hotel) does family-style dinners at big communal tables, starting at $65 pp for three courses. Very chic space, and you can go up to the rooftop bar for drinks afterward. I attended a business dinner like this there a few months ago, and the family-style platters were very festive and fun.

What night is the dinner? Availability could be severely limited if it's on a Friday or Saturday,
Essex Restaurant has solid food, can handle large groups, and is very hip - but it's hip in a younger way, may not be the best place for a business dinner. Popular spot for bachelor / bachelorette parties and pre-barhopping groups.
Beauty & Essex is the flavor-of-the-month right now. Very chic, trendy, but the food is reasonably priced. Semi-celebrity chef making pretty creative food, clubby scene.
Vandaag is a great new(-ish) place, very sleek, well-reviewed, fit for "foodie" types, hip East Village location. Scandinavian-influenced food, hearty, most (all?) entrees are under $30. Great cocktails as well, if it's that sort of crowd. Could probably handle a large group, but you'd have to call them.
