I was reading about this dumpling place in the press recently and thought I would give it a try. My favorite dumpling place is probably xiongs (I think this is the name) for reference. This dumpling place is next to the Korean restaurant Airirang and shares a kitchen but only has a 3 Chinese letter name, there is not an American name for this place. The dumplings are spectacular. The dipping sauce they have available trumpet xiongs and the dumplings themselves are as good or better. I also read about the $.95 "empenada" which is the first item on the vertical board. This was a large wonton filled w noodles and other greens and folded over and fried. It was very good and a bargain. Next time I will try a noodle dish.

Based on your recommendation I found this pearl tucked away off Bellaire today.. My GF and I ordered and shared, a spicy seafood soup, an order of veg/pork dumplings and an order of seafood/meat dumplings,, steamed.. Way too much food ordered but for $17 and change a bargain.. These are fresh made dumplings made in the back kitchen by women who know a thing or two about the art form,,,, however,,

I found the absolute best dumplings at a resturant in of all places,, San Antonio.. another foodie chowhound recommendation... Sichuan Cuisine on NW Military Hwy serves Chengdu Style dumplings that sets the bar so high, anything else,, and your just settling... I've eaten in Chinese resturants in Hong Kong, Chinatown NY, SF, here and this is simply the best dumplings anywhere.. Combine that with another appetizer of Dan Dan Noodles and you will be one satisfied buda! If you like a little "sizzle" and kick with otherwise boring Chinese, this is your place.. While in SA, don't forget to drop by Dough for the best Italian pizza..

Dough is freaking awesome! Favorite pizza with the exception of maybe Keste in NYC.

totally agree on Dough (i've been to Keste as well)... next time ur in SA ck out Sichuan.. In fact, I tried to work a trip to san antonio this week and couldn't.... i'll have to wait... the dumplings there are "freaking awesome"!! enjoy!

If you're ever in Dallas, try Cane Rosso. I'd put them above Dough, then Dough above Cavalli (also in Dallas). All three are stellar Neapolitan pizzas though.

Has anyone found good XLB in Houston yet?

      2. FYI-I believe it is closed Tuesday's.
