Nice New Sushi and Asian Fusion Restaurant in Williamsburg

Moon Asian Bistro, which opened in June, 2011 in the Monticello Shopping Center in Williamsburg, is a welcome new addition to the local restaurant scene. The decor is modern and upscale with a bar, sushi, bar, lounge area, and comfortable seating throughout, accented by tasteful lighting and wall coverings. The menu is eclectic, featuring sushi, a selection of 5 soups and 9 salads, over a dozen hot appetizers, and 8 cold ones. These range from standard fare like Edamame and Gyoza to Goat Cheese Gyoza Ravioli and Seafood Ceviche. Classic preparations like various teriyakis, fried rice, and noodle preparations are complemented by 9 "Asian Classic Entrees" such as Asian Coconut Curry and 9 "Fusion Entrees" such as Miso Chilean Seabass which is served grilled with asparagus over coconut Thai brown rice and complemented nicely by an orange miso sauce. A friend and I split a couple of sushi rolls which were fresh, attractively presented, and made with quality ingredients. We then split the Asian Coconut Curry with Chicken and the Seabass, both of which were excellent. The curry was flavorful and the sauce well made, and the chicken was moist and perfectly cooked. The seabass was excellent, with the Thai brown rice tasting like a risotto with coconut and blackberry tones. I went back for lunch (sushi only) last weekend, and again found the restaurant, food, and service to be first-rate. The staff is customer-focused and friendly. The restaurant was recently briefly and positively reviewed in the Newport News Daily Press
