Looking for Tex-Mex (with full bar) suggestions...got one?

Thanks, hounds! :-)

There are only two serious Tex-Mex restaurants in Montreal – Icehouse and Jolifou. Jolifou is more Tex than Mex, but they make a pretty good margarita.

Thanks! I've been to Icehouse (not a fan), but I haven't heard of Jolifou! I'll give it a shot. :-)

What's good in El Meson, EaterBob? I've often been tempted to stop in.

The Terrace. Despite Maisonbistro's recent experience, I would go back in a heartbeat. The food is good - nothing earth shattering, mind you - and the drinks are tasty, but really to my mind the only reason you need to go to El Meson is the terrace.

I was just at El Meson on Saturday night and had a terrible experience. I've been there before and enjoyed it- but this time, the service was horrendous and the margaritas were weak. The food though was still good- I had the chicken breast with mole sauce- the chicken was a tad dry but I love their mole.

Unfortunately service has a huge impact for me on a meal, and I won't be going back any time soon.

The best margartia I've had in Montreal, to my taste, was a Cafe Locale, in Mile End, but it is not a Tex Mex place.

What did you not like about Icehouse - that might help us steer you...

Have you tried Taqueria Mex on St Laurent? I find the food there very fresh and well prepared, though it might be more casual than you were looking for.

I've heard great things from a number of people about Taqueria, including from Mexicans. So it must be good!

Maria Bonita is Mexican all the way, nothing tex-mex about it. Not sure they serve margaritas either.

They do have margaritas. Lime/mango/strawberry I believe, but not 100% sure about the last one.

Lime, strawberry, mango and tamarind. The tamarind one is really worth a try. It's darn tasty.

For an authentic Mexican meal Maria Bonita is a great idea! Their drinks are excellent too.

Every single time I have tried to go to Maria Bonita, they have been closed...I have pretty much given up ever trying it...we were there last Friday, and it was deserted. Do they have regular hours, because it seems like the ones posted on the door are completely irrelevant.
