Final meal in NYC... Ideas and Thank you!

FattyDumplin Jul 24, 2011 10:16 AM

So tomorrow, we're spending our final evening in NYC at 78th and Broadway before moving to the West Coast. We'll have a high floor terrace but will be exhausted after a day of packing and moving. But, I'd love to have one last meal on the terrace (to achieve my final NYC goal...) after the kids go down.

First though, wanted to thank everyone on the Manhattan board. I honestly love reading everyone's writing / reviews and I always feel a bit silly writing my reviews because they seem so unrefined compared to some posters. And, even though "fine" dining really isn't my thing and I rarely do it, I absolutely have enjoyed vicariously the amazing reviews of Eleven Madison, Le Bernardin, etc... even though I typically don't enjoy such restaurants because I tend to like things more chill, it's like I can taste and feel each unbelieveable morsel as I read all your reviews. So far that, and for introducing more food finds than I was ultimately able to try, thank you!

Now for that final meal. I was thinking Shake Shack because they are my favorite burger or simply getting a ribeye from Fairway because I've always enjoyed their steaks. Alternatively, I could go and round up some nice cheeses, charcuterie and breads from within a 10 block radius, but my fear is I'll be too tired to do so. Any other ideas?

I don't see why you can't have a spread of all of your local favorites if you feel up to it: takeout some Shake Shack and buy items from Fairway, etc.

I so wanted to... And then guess what happened. Of course it rained all evening, so we couldn't use the terrace. We ended up eating Chirping Chicken because we were so wiped out from the move. But there's a nice symmetry as the hotel / last meal were the exact same as our hotel / first meal when we moved to hte city in '05.

I think a Fairway-sourced picnic and a bottle of champagne is the way to go

I think you should gather stuff from Fairway, Zabar's, Barney Greengrass, etc etc and have a picnic with champagne and good red wine.

I think you are both right. Barring any last minute contenders, I'll have to grab my UWS favorites tomorrow evening!
