Lunch in Maine

We are landing in Portland at noon and have to be in Freeport by 5 pm. We love Maine but haven't been in years so we are thinking of driving to Kennebunkport for lunch. Is this crazy? Any better ideas for lunch that will still get us to Freeport by 5?
Thanks.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm convinced--we will stay in the Portland/S. Portland area. Interesting that many restaurants are only open for dinner buy i can see we won't have a problem finding a place.

Maybe a trip over the bridge to South Portland to Joe's Boathouse or head a wee bit South to Cape Elizabeth to Two Lights (yes, it's a "shack" but with a fine, fine view) or for fancier the Inn by the Sea.

If you were landing in Kennebunk with a plan of going south, I might suggest heading north to Portland first. Cerrtainly not going the other way so, to answer your first question, yes it's crazy, 2nd question: there are tons of options for lunch in Portland that, in sum, blow away any place within 100 miles. Lots of threads on where to eat or are you looking for anything specific?

Thanks everyone. As far as what I'm looking for.....I love seafood of all kinds, especially lobster. My wife won't eat seafood, but loves fish.

Ok, now I'm a little confused. Typo? I'm guessing your wife won't eat shellfish? But loves other kinds of seafood, like fish? Or maybe just loves looking at fish in the tank? Sorry, sometimes I can't help myself. If it's shellfish she doesn't like, there are many options where you can get a lobster and she can get some fish or non-fish sandwich, salad,, etc. Mind you, for lobster, Portland is not necessarily the place for your basic lobster as full service restaurants will make you pay a premium. Go to Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster (great scenic location) in South Freeport or another shack type place for the basics. That being said, there's J's Oyster Bar on the water as well as the Old Port Sea Grill where you can get a variety of fish/non-fish items. There's DiMillos floating restaurant which is an extreme tourist trap and looked very down upon by Hounds (for some legit reasons) but you can get a very decent lunch while eating on the deck with the best water views in town. Or better yet, since you have time, just stroll The Old Port section of town (these places are all there) and see what strikes your fancy - you'll have at least a couple of dozen options. Enjoy!

Not a typo. She doesn't eat shellfish, but does eat fish. (Not sure is she likes looking at fish in a tank!) We probably want a sit down as opposed to a shack. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I don't think the Old Port Sea Grill is open for lunch...

The wait at J's Oyster was too long so, since we were right at DiMillo's we went there, despite it's reputation as a tourist trap. Happy to report that we had an excellent meal.
Spent the weekend at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport--their Sunday brunch was amazing!

Makes no sense to go south from Portland if you are planning to end up in Freeport. You will spend 2 of your 3 hours in the car.

I would stay in Portland for lunch, myself. Too many good places. A simple search will turn many of them up.
