who has the best donuts in queens?

janie Jul 24, 2011 08:13 AM

Are there other donut alternatives besides Dunkin and Entenmann's where you can get a freshly baked box of donuts? Krispy Kreme is my benchmark--and doughnot plant in the city made me ill, (way too yeasty)--------or something....cannelle doesn't have donuts :(

thanks for some "regular" but tasty suggestions for fresh donuts for my kid..

Not technically in Queens, but Peter Pan donuts in nearby Greenpoint is likely your best bet, since they serve the best donuts in NYC, IMO.

I second the Peter Pan recommendation. Brooklyn actually has a number of decent independently-owned donut shops (more than the other boroughs, for whatever reason).

If you definitely want to stay in Queens, you might want to check out Alpha Donuts on Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside. Not the best I've had, but a decent option, especially earlier in the day.

Just FYI, the majority of donuts at Alpha Donuts are cake style, not yeast style like Krispy Kreme, and they run out of popular flavors quickly. Also, be forewarned - Alpha Donuts is a true "greasy spoon" diner, so if you are particular about sanitation in any way, you might find the atmosphere a bit off-putting.

thank you for the suggestions..I've actually been to alpha donuts, a long time ago...it's just like the place that was on 23rd st and 1st ave in the city forever, until they built something on that corner..some kind of greek diner..can't remember the name....they must get them from the same place....will definitely check out Peter Pan, saw photos online, and it looks like exactly what I'm after....

I couple of years ago, six of us of blind-tasted 4 kinds of donuts from the four top donut places in NYC (plus DD and Tim Horton's as baselines), all at once. Peter Pan was unanimously voted the best classic-style donuts, including for raised glazed and old fashioned cake.
