Upscale Birthday Celebration

A New Yorker friend of mine will be in Seattle during her 60th birthday. She is quite sophisticated and knows food and wine.

Can you suggest a place that preferably but not necessarily has seafood, has a good vibe and is upscale and delicious? Money is no object.
I looked at the boards and "Spinasseā€ seems to be recommended but my friends are very used to eating Italian.
How is Canlis? Can anyone recommend any other places for a party of four that takes reservations?

  1. Canlis is an old-school Special Occasion restaurant and they've (one of the Canlis boys has almost always greeted us) always made me feel they were honored that we chose their restaurant for our celebrations. Their menu has a Northwest leaning that she won't find in New York. For sophisticated and classic I would also suggest Le Gourmand. You might want to take her to Spinasse while she's in town as it is such an "it" restaurant at the moment, but it doesn't strike me as having a milestone birthday dinner atmosphere.

    1. Canlis is your best bet. It's the premier spot in Seattle for absolutely incredible service, beautiful views and amazing food.

If your group is 4 and you want, there is a small private dining room with wide views at Canlis. It's available only by reservation and I believe the max occupancy for the room is 4. Someone on here will chime in with the name. I've toured it (the room), but never enjoyed a meal there.

It is called the Cache and dining there is wonderful. We did it about 3 years ago and are going to do it again this year. The service is impeccable and the food is very good. Plus there is the amazing view.

      2. What about Corson Building? I haven't been, but hear nothing but good things and it's definitely a Seattle experience, and they take reservations as far as I know.
