Cape Cod - Must Dos - Hynnais, Yarmouth

I'm headed to the Cape, staying near Hyannis in South Yarmouth, and looking for Chowhounders to lead my way. I've searched the boards, but haven't seen as much information as I thought I would. Best casual places? Best treat? General must try spots?

On my list so far:

Chatham Pier Fish Market
The Oyster Compay
The Impudent Oyster
Keltic Kichen (breakfast)
Colombos Cafe
PB Boulangerie Bistro
Wequassett (for fine dining)

We'll also cook at the house - so top fish mongers? butchers?

Thanks for any leads!

Great list..the Rd Pheasant is in Dennis on the other side. I love their bar for winter dining.

      Sesuit Cafe
      Ocean House
Hangar B Eatery for breakfast or brunch (closed Tue.)
Love 28 Atlantic as you have on your list (Wequassett)
Norabella for Italian (wine list is ok)

I go to Ring Brothers in Dennis for chicken (Bell and Evans) and in the same building is Chatham Fish. The fruit and veggies here are abysmal so pass on that and go to Hart Farm on Upper Co Road same town. They also sell Iggy's bread.

Dennis Public Market has good meats. Oh in S Yarmouth go to Great Island Bakery on South St. VERY good little spot for tasty treats.

I defer to others to chime in. I did not love Oyster Co other than their 99 cent oysters before 6:30.

If you go to PB, get breads and pasteries but go up to Mac Shack to eat.

Oyster Co is good if you need a place with kids menu and decent wine list. If you are without kids I would skip it - - - instead drive a few more miles towards Chatham and hit Pisces. For Italian - - - Norabella. My breakfast choices: Omlettes goes to Keltic. Pumpkin pancakes and "special" hollandaise homefries to Red Cottage. Lemon-ricotta pancakes and awesome potato/beet hash to Hangar B. I'm in Cape myself this week. Planing to hit Sesuit for my 1st time for lobster roll. If you really take a long drive towards Ptown, I did hit a great lobster roll at PJ's in Wellfleet.

The PJ's lobster roll in Wellfleet is quite good, as are their fried seafood and onion rings. We have to stop there yearly so my hubby can get his onion ring fix.

The Montreal Gazette printed the story in today's travel section. Lo and behold it ran in the Times 2 months ago...

        1. Thanks all! Is it worth looking for lobster rolls, even if it's not a Cape Cod thing per se? Porker, I like the oyster idea.

I had two really good lobster rolls - one at Sesuit Harbor Cafe, and one a little further out on the Cape at Friendly Fisherman.

Also had a fantastic dinner at Pain D'Avignon. The only thing better than their tasty mussels is soaking up the broth with their delicious bread. The lamb risotto had wonderful pieces of fried loin and sweetbread.

While we aren't Down east Maine, lobster rolls are definately Cape fare. Sesuit Cafe is a great rec and must do and does both clams and lobster rolls equally well. Chatham Fish is already on your list and their roll is awesome as well.. You have compiled an excellent list so go with , and the recs you have received from the very knowledgeable posters here. While in Hyannis I'd add Alberto's for great Italian upscale fare. I love to have cioppino and sit out on the sidewalk. There,s also a great gelato stand a few blocks away just off Main that is owned by two sisters from Florence.

So I trust your list. Spend some time away from the south side and drive along the bay on the north side on historic 6A and don,t be afraid to detour toward the water now and again.

            2. Phelana - great list, thanks so much!
