Waterbury, VT ice cream?

Does anyone know of a good ice cream place in Waterbury, VT? We have a tradition of getting sushi and ice cream on my son's half-birthday. It sounds like Stebu Sushi is the place to go, but as for ice cream...?

(Alternatively, a good combination of sushi + ice cream places in Middlebury or around Bethel?...we're staying in Granville on Rt 100.)

Many thanks.

Stebu sushi if I understand is closing. - At least the Blackback pub is expanding into their area, not sure when that is happening. And obviously Ben & Jerrys is in Waterbury.

Stebu is not closing, but is not currently open. He's shooting for opening again next week, last update I saw. There's renovations in the building going on.

Muddy Paw has creemees but no sushi (south Main Street in Waterbury, just down the road a bit from Stebu Sushi). I have a hard time recommending any other sushi in the Central Vermont area. There's some good sushi up in Williston...

And yeah, Ben and Jerry's for ice cream ice cream (as opposed to soft serve)

Many thanks...where in Williston do you recommend for sushi? That's a little less far than going all the way into Burlington for us...

You get off exit 12 (on I-89), turn right. Drive past the big box stores, and past Friendly's that stands on the Taft Corners intersection. Drive through that light and immediately on the right will be a shopping center (where The 99 Restaurant is located). Turn right into the parking lot, and you drive around to the other side of the shopping center (sorta "behind" The 99), and you'll see a bagel place and a pizza place. There's a sushi place right there. I think it's next to the pizza place. But it's on that side. It looks like a total hole in the wall, but I really like it. :)

Its Sakura Sushi and I second Morganna's recommendation. They have two locations, I think the other one is in Burlington and is a bigger restaurant. I used to drive to Williston often for work and loved, loved, loved their spicy tuna sashimi appetizer. I miss it!

The other good sushi spot in Williston is Asian Bistro. Their sushi bar is certainly their best offering. Some creative rolls (they are a lot of food) for around $12-$13.

If you had to drive all the way back from Williston to Granville, an alternative to Ben and Jerry's is to pick up a couple of pints of Strafford Organic Creamery Ice Cream. It's sold in a lot of stores (probably the Shaw's right near both sushi spots) and you could eat it at home. The coffee flavor is awesome.

Thanks everybody. We ended up going to Asian Bistro. The quality of the fish was remarkable, I agree. But it was cut the wrong way, so there was that membrane that you're not supposed to get. The rice was not sushi rice! I think it was regular Chinese long-grain rice, and not a trace of rice vinegar. The seaweed salad was over-sweet, the miso soup and salad par for the course.

I thought the prices very reasonable considering that the fish was so high-quality. I just wish there had been equal attention to the other details of the meal.

We went to the Ben & Jerry's mother ship in Waterbury after...took the tour, too. No complaints there.

Just for future reference, I think you would have liked the sushi place just up the road a bit at Taft Corners better. :)

For anyone who is looking for good ice cream in waterbury, the ice cream at Juniper's Fare in Waterbury is homemade and wonderful. I had a cone of vanilla dipped in toasted coconut (the real stuff). Juniper's Fare is located where Rt 100 and Rt 2 part ways, by the subaru dealership. I don't think they are open on Sundays.
