Steamahs! near New Haven. Help!

Hey Hounds. I'm a displaced Connecticut girl -- been living in Iowa for 11 years -- and I'm heading back to CT for a little vacation. I have a list of things I need to eat, and at the top is steamers. Where's the best place to go to get a big ol' bucket of 'em? I don't care about view, although it'd be nice. I just want to get all buttery and glassy-eyed. I'll be staying in Milford, whence I hail, so anywhere near-ish there would work.
On a related-but-not-really note, I'm curious about razor clams. Anybody in the area serving those?
I'd also like arancine, if anyone's in the know....
My god, I'm going to gain one hundred pounds in one week! Can't wait....

  1. My favorite place for steamers is the Back Duck in Westport. Stowe's in West Haven (bonus- right on the beach) is another household favorite for all of their seafood.

    Enjoy your trip!

    1. not sure if it's too far north for you, but the steamers at Lenny & Joe's in Westbrook were great.

I went to Central Grammar & Foran & then moved to Manchester after college (UConn). I haven't been to Stew's either, but I hear it's gotten even more ridiculous. What's that little gourmet grocery in Manchester? LaBonne's? Is that it?
Have you ever had a salami grinder from Uliano's in Manchester? Holy god that's a good sandwich....

dont remember a little gourmet grocery store named labonnes in manchester...only "little" market i remember is highland park market...

if Iulianos is the same little italian bakery on spruce street then yes...i lived just off of oak st..

course i havent lived in manchester since the early 90s..we moved to enfield after that...then i moved here about 15 years ago..i only get back to visit family now and again...

        2. If you're staying in Milford, you can get good steamers at the Savin Rock Roasting Company in Stratford. Its located at the old "Harborside" (or Fagan's...if you remember from years ago), directly across from the Dock Shopping Center at the Devon/Stratford bridge.

          1. Scribners in Woodmont section of Milford has always been good and they show in their specials today: http://www.scribnersrestaurant.com/ch...

and I have always loved the steamers at Stonebridge in downtown Milford:
